Six
weeks before Christmas Day 2011, Chapter 649 held a food-drive, asking
for donations of canned goods and items so we (Chapter
649) may help provide seven local area Veteran
families in need, have a Merry Christmas.
Chapter Member Steve Tam, chaired this project.
Steve choose a 4 person committee to assist in the collection and preparations
of the goods.
Steve began searching for businesses
to seek out donations for our project.
Wallmart - Donation : Gift-Card to help purchase any items needed.
Klosterman Bakery - : Donation : 23 loaf's of bread for the families.
Honey Baked Ham - : Donation : 8 Honey-Baked Hams 7 lb each.
Holly Hills School - : Canned food & other usable
items.
Heisler Park Bingo - : Canned food & other usable items.
Chapter 649 Members - : $ 226 to use for items not donated which needed
to be purchased.
We soon realized, with all the food collected, one box per family was
NOT going to hold all the items.
We approached our local Kroger store and ask for empty Banana boxes !
After all food was disbursted equally, we had filled 21 banana boxes,
Three boxes per family, filled with canned food items :
Corn / Green Beans / Applesauce / Peas / Carrots / Various
Soups, etc.
Three one pound boxes of Spaghetti including Sauce,
Three one pound bags of dried beans and boxes of corbread mix,
Five pound bag of potatoes,
Cranberry Sauce, Yams, Stuffing / Bacon, Eggs, Butter,
Sunny D,
Apples / Oranges / Christmas Candy / Popcorn,
Dish soap / Bath soap / Shaving cream / Disposal razors,
Two pack of Paper Towels / Four pack Bath Tissue, Toothpaste
Providing each family
with a Christmas Card with a $300 Gift Card inclosed
